Dr. Stefanie Federle is Chief Scientific Officer at Kelpi, a materials innovation company developing
novel biomaterials from seaweed and other bio-based resources to replace fossil-based packaging.
As a technical lead on R&D projects, Stefanie is responsible for delivering the development of Kelpi’s
materials to meet client’s needs. This includes tailoring the biomaterials to fulfil specific barrier
properties and performance characteristics while maintaining their recyclability or biodegradability.
Stefanie, who holds a PhD in Sustainable Chemical Technologies from the University of Bath, is an
expert in polymer chemistry with over 5 years’ experience of developing and testing renewable
polymers for a range of applications. Her work has involved collaboration on multidisciplinary
projects in both Europe and the US, where she has worked with a diverse range of bio-based
feedstocks, including seaweed, microalgae, and terpenes
