I pursued my engineering in ‘Printing Engineering’ in India from Pune University and continued to Western Michigan University in the USA for my Masters in Paper Engineering graduating in 2008. Most of my career focus has been on New Product Development roles. Early in my career I worked for green technology startup EcoSynthetix which develops sustainable alternatives for acrylic based paper coating binders. Since 2015 I have been working with specialty paper sector. For the first four years with Domtar and the past 3.5 years with Paper Excellence at Catalyst Paper division. Our team has played key part in transitioning from less than 10 percent specialty products to 50 plus percent in the short span of time.
I was recognized with TAPPI top 30 under 30 award in 2015.
Dr. ir. Pieter Samyn received Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering 2007 at Ghent University and followed an academic career at University Freiburg and Hasselt University, until 2021 when he joined the collective research center Sirris as a Senior Research Engineer. He has broad experience on the synthesis, processing and characterization of bio-based materials for composite and coating applications. His research focusses on surface functionalization and he subsequently led research projects on bio-inspired adhesion mechanisms, functional coatings for paper substrates and the development of (nano)composite materials from bio-based building blocks (cellulose, biopolymers). The applied industrial research currently focusses on formulation and processing of biobased resins for more sustainable paper coating formulations with enhanced performance and recyclability.
Rohit Ghosh is the Global Commercial Head of Paperboard business at APRIL Group, where he is responsible for developing and leading commercial strategies and for the financial management of the paper board business. He is also responsible for driving market share and for managing APRIL’s market positioning as a sustainable and reliable supplier of paperboard. On a wider level, he is also one of the industry drivers for accelerating the adoption of sustainable fiber-based packaging products.
He has more than 17 years of experience in the B2B industry, having held progressively senior positions across diverse business functions such as global strategy, product management, marketing, business management and technical service. He has lived and worked in different countries including the U.S, Germany, Belgium, India, Malaysia and Singapore.
Rohit holds a Masters of Industrial Chemistry dual degree from Technical University of Munich and National University of Singapore. He has completed multiple executive programs at INSEAD and Mannheim Business School.
Cindy Cheng is an experienced advocate for sustainability with over two decades of expertise. She approaches the
field of environmentalism with a focus on building partnerships and engaging stakeholders to create positive
change. Her work has strengthened the connection between people, businesses, and the environment, making a
significant difference in the natural world.
Currently, Cindy serves as the Asia-Pacific Regional Director for FSC, the most recognized, trusted, and rigorous forest
certification system. In this role, she leads a team to establish FSC's presence in over 10 countries, driving the
implementation of national and regional strategies. Cindy collaborates with governments, private sector entities,
NGOs, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable practices and safeguard the environment in this crucial and
intricate region.

Dirk Kaczmarek, Technical Account Development Lead at Consumer Flexibles, joined Mondi in 2012. He is passionate about food packaging and has more than 20 years of experience in FMCG packaging and has worked globally. At Mondi he has held various roles (Application Engineer, R&D, Quality, Technical Account Manager) and also worked in Thailand for almost 3 years. Before Mondi, he gained experience at other international flexible packaging converting companies. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Duisburg/Essen, Germany, and the University of Manchester, UK. He also obtained a doctorate in engineering (Dr.Ing.) from the University of Duisburg/Essen.
An Engineer in Printing Technology and Post graduate in Packaging Technology, who has delivered innovations/Patents with Unilever, in the domain of RFID and is currently taking Private label innovations to the next level with Walmart. He leads the artwork development, package design And procurement currently, with an inclination towards innovative technologies, customer convenience and sustainability.

Alexey Vishtal is working at Mayr-Melnhof Board & Paper as a Head of Novel Packaging Development where his main focus is development of novel fibre-based packaging with barrier functionality to offer a viable alternative to difficult to recycle plastics. He has joined MM in early 2022 and before that spent almost 7 years with Nestlé leading fibre-based packaging in their research organization. Before that he held various positions in paper and related industries. Alexey has a paper engineering background and doctoral degree in paper physics and converting.
Tom is an award-winning innovator with 23 years’ industry experience. Initially working in the consumer products sector with Reckitt, Tom has spent the last 17 years in the paper and packaging industries working for market leading multi-national companies including; UPM, DS Smith and Billerud as well as running his own independent sustainable packaging consultancy for 4 years.
Tom’s experience is wide ranging, from consumer and market insight, mergers & acquisitions and brand owner management to product development and sustainability.
Recently Tom hosted and presented on two international webinars focused on the circular economy and innovations in packaging. In 2022 Tom presented as part of Esko’s Sustainability in Packaging series of webinars and at Smithers’ E-Pack event in the US. Added to this Tom has prior experience of managing multi-market consultancy projects focused on packaging strategy & roadmap development for branded consumer goods.
Tom was awarded the “Think New” award by Billerud at a ceremony in Stockholm in Dec 2017 for his work leading a team that developed 2 new paper grades, and innovative bag designs, that helped break the market for paper based e-commerce mailing bags.

Master's Degree in Forest Products Marketing and Management from University of Helsinki, Finland. Currently employed by Mondi Group as a Head of Product Portfolio Management for Flexible Packaging.
Dr. Warren Batchelor is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Biore-source Processing Research Institute of Australia (BioPRIA), part of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Monash University. He is also Director of Education in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He is the chair of the Standards Australia PK-019 committee, which develops standards for the pulp and paper industry and is the Australian representative on the international com-mittee, TC6.
His major research interests are in sustainable materials, with a particular interest in materials from cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), with contributions including:
• Recyclability of CNF films and of paper-polymer laminates.
• Life-cycle analysis of materials and processes
• CNF characterisation methods including developing standards for CNFs.
• Paper mill biorefinery and CNF production.
• Methods for the rapid preparation of CNF sheets by spray coating and vacu-um filtration.
• Development of renewable, recyclable, CNF barrier layers to displace petro-leum-derived polymers in packaging.
• Nanoparticle-cellulose nanofibre composites for barrier applications, ultrafil-tration membranes, antimicrobial functional layers and photocatalytic deg-radation of organic contaminants.
